Eye Conditions Overview
Age-Related Macular Degeneration
Age-related Macular Degeneration is a condition which affects the central part of the retina, called the macula. It leads to worsening of vision. There are early forms of AMD which may not show symptoms but can be noted during routine eye checks. However, there are more advanced forms which can cause vision loss and need further investigation, like a VisionSafe Eye Check.

Blepharitis
Blepharitis is an inflammation of the eyelids. It can make the eyelids red and eyelashes crusty, and make the eyes feel irritated or itchy.
Cataracts
Cataract is a condition where the lens ages to the point where it becomes frosty and opaque obscuring vision with a yellowish haze.
Change in Vision
Changes in Vision can include blurriness, halos, blind spots, the inability to see at certain distances, and even blindness.
Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy is a condition seen in people with diabetes. It leads to changes in the retina including blockage of small blood vessels and bleeding. Severe forms can be dangerous as the condition can lead to vision loss or blindness.
Dry Eye
Dry eyes have less than normal moisture on the eye surface, either caused by a lack of tears or by poor tear quality. The incidence of dry eye increases with age due to the natural ageing process, but can also have other causes such as environmental conditions or medications.
Flashes and Floaters
Flashes and Floaters is a condition where flashes of lights or floating dots appear within the vision as you move your eye. Flashes and Floaters are quite commonly seen in people with normal eyes but can sometimes be associated with retinal disease.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is an older age disease of the optic nerve and comes gradually over time. Glaucoma can lead to the permanent loss of vision and should, therefore, be treated as early as possible.

Retinal Vein Occlusion
Retinal vein occlusion is a blockage of the small veins that carry blood away from the retina and can lead to sudden, painless blurred or loss of vision.
Sore, gritty eye
Sore and gritty eyes can be a signal to see an ophthalmologist urgently so if the problem persists you will want to act fast.
