How long does a VisionSafe check take?
Lydia Chang:
How long does a VisionSafe check take: well, that can take up to an hour and a half, actually, because what we want to do when the query comes in, is to assess the nature of the concerns. And so, the consultant will see you, first of all, talk through your concerns, then the tests will start, and we’ll take you through the tests ourselves.
The tests can range from the eye scan, which will look at the structure of the eye, the anatomy of the eye, and that will take a few minutes to do, actually, just to build up all the scans that are necessary for a VisionSafe check.
And then, also, the visual field test, which can take 10 to 15 minutes to perform. And while all of these tests, individually, take just a few minutes, actually, the whole consultation time will add up to about an hour and a half.
Do you have anything to add?
Praveen Patel:
I agree with you. I think the other thing that I wanted to say is the fact that I’ve seen some of the scans of patients that Lydia has seen, just to give an opinion about the status of the macula. And, indeed, vice versa. There are patients that I’ve seen who’ve booked in for a VisionSafe test, and the suspicion was one of age-related macular degeneration – AMD. But, actually, they had changes in the optic nerve that were more suggestive of glaucoma. So, I then got an opinion from Lydia about the scans.
And that’s the way we dovetail very closely when it comes to making sure that we give the correct diagnosis to each patient that we see.
