What eye conditions are we checking for with a VisionSafe Eye Check?

Lydia Chang:

So, what eye conditions are we checking for in a VisionSafe Eye Check: well, we’re looking out for age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma, because both of these conditions are very common in the older population and are causes of irreversible visual loss.

A lot of people will develop these conditions with no symptoms at all. And so, the purpose of a VisionSafe check is to try to identify the condition at an earlier stage, to get a better prognosis for the condition.

Praveen Patel:

And Lydia, we’ve both seen people who’ve perhaps seen their optician or optometrist, and there was a concern or suspicion about a particular diagnosis. Or, perhaps, there was a concern regarding a particular family history. By seeing patients and retailoring the diagnostic technology to the condition that we suspect, we’re able to get some clear-cut answers regarding what’s going on.

I think the other thing that patients appreciate is the fact that they can see us closer to where they live. So, they can see us in St Albans, at Eyesight, at the Eyesight Clinic, rather than having to travel in to see us in central London because they’re still accessing the same expertise and the same imaging tests, but it’s just much closer to home.
